Ringbridge

The phone shouldn’t stop the job you’re already being paid to do.

Ringbridge answers for plumbers, heating engineers, electricians, drainage firms, roofers, locksmiths and property maintenance teams, so the person on site can stay on the job while the next one is booked.

The problem

You are the engineer, the office and the switchboard.

In most trade businesses the person who answers the phone is the person doing the work. Every call means downing tools, wiping your hands and trying to sound unhurried with the water off and a customer watching.

So calls get missed. Not because you do not care, but because you are up a ladder, in a loft, under a floor or driving to the next address. The caller does not know that. They hear a ring tone, then they ring somebody else.

Hiring someone to sit by the phone rarely adds up for a small firm, and an answering service that takes a name and number just moves the job of ringing back to the evening.

The enquiry arrives at the one moment you are least able to take it.

What Ringbridge handles

The calls a trade business really gets.

Each of these is handled differently, because each of them means something different to your diary.

  • Emergency enquiries

Burst pipes, no heating, no power, blocked drains. Urgency is established first, safety questions are asked where your rules require them, and the right person is alerted.

  • Postcode qualification

Coverage is checked during the call. Out-of-area callers are told politely, so nobody books a job you will not travel to.

  • Job type and detail

What it is, where it is, how long it has been happening, what make or model. The questions your engineer would ask, in the order they would ask them.

  • Diary and booking

Where your diary is connected, suitable slots are offered and booked. Where it is not, a clear callback is created with a preferred time.

  • Quotes and callbacks

Work that needs a visit or the owner’s eye is never priced on the phone. Details are taken so the quote conversation starts halfway through.

  • After-hours calls

Evenings and weekends follow their own rules: genuine emergencies reach the on-call engineer, everything else is booked for the next working day.

  • Existing customers

“What time are you coming?” and “Can I move Thursday?” are answered or passed on, without interrupting whoever is on the tools.

On the phone

A boiler breakdown, Monday, 09:02.

Every engineer is on site. The call is answered, the safety question is asked, and a breakdown visit goes in the diary.

  1. 0:10Caller

My boiler has stopped working. We’ve got no heating and no hot water since last night.

  2. 0:18Ringbridge

I’m sorry, that’s miserable. First, a safety check: can you smell gas at all, or is there any sign of a leak around the boiler?

  3. 0:27Caller

No, nothing like that. It’s just showing a fault code. F28, I think.

  4. 0:35Ringbridge

Thank you. F28, noted. Do you know the make of the boiler?

  5. 0:41Caller

It’s a Vaillant. Combi. About eight years old.

  6. 0:47Ringbridge

Perfect. And what’s the postcode of the property?

  7. 0:51Caller

    WR9 8, Droitwich.

  8. 0:57Ringbridge

That’s within the area we cover. The first breakdown visit I can offer is tomorrow, Tuesday, between nine and twelve. Would that work?

Configured, not templated

No two trades take the same call.

A drainage firm and an electrician need to ask very different first questions. Ringbridge is set up around your trade, your services and your rules. These are examples, not defaults.

TradeWhat Ringbridge asks earlyA typical rule
Plumbing & heatingIs water escaping now? Any smell of gas? Boiler make and fault code.Smell of gas: give the National Gas Emergency number and alert the owner at once.
ElectricalIs anything hot, sparking or smelling of burning? Whole property or one circuit?Burning smell: advise switching off at the consumer unit if safe, then escalate.
DrainageInside or outside? Is anything overflowing? Shared drain or private?Sewage indoors is an emergency at any hour. Slow sinks wait for the morning.
LocksmithLocked out or lock failed? Is the caller somewhere safe? Proof of address available?State the out-of-hours call-out fee and get agreement before dispatching.
RoofingIs water coming in now? Flat or pitched? Storm damage or gradual?Never quote. Book a survey, or a make-safe visit if water is getting in.
Property maintenanceTenant, landlord or agent? Which property? Who authorises the spend?Tenants can report; only the landlord or agent can approve work.

Before you ask

The usual questions.

Can it make bookings?

Yes, where your diary or booking system is connected and you have told it what may be booked. You decide which job types can go straight into the diary, which slots can be offered, and which enquiries should become a callback instead.

Can it give prices?

Only the prices you have explicitly defined, such as a fixed call-out fee or a standard service price, and only in the situations you allow. Anything that needs judgement is passed to a person. Ringbridge does not estimate or guess.

Does it work out of hours?

Yes, where configured. You can set different rules for evenings, weekends and bank holidays, such as only alerting the on-call engineer for genuine emergencies and booking everything else for the next working day.

What if a call is unusual?

Unusual, sensitive or high-value calls go to a person. You define what counts, for example complaints, anything involving safety, or jobs over a certain size. Ringbridge captures what it can and hands over cleanly.

Is every business given the same script?

No. Ringbridge is set up around your services, coverage area, prices, diary and escalation rules. A drainage firm and a tyre shop need to ask very different questions, and their calls should sound like it.

Will customers know they are speaking to an AI?

They should, and we recommend saying so at the start of the call. Callers mostly want a prompt, competent answer and a clear next step. Ringbridge introduces itself as the business’s assistant, explains that the team are busy, and gets on with helping. Most callers are happier with that than with voicemail.
